MP3: Hosanna

Hosanna - Song History
Words & Music: Dennis Jernigan
Received on July 29, 2011

The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed,
were shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David; BLESSED IS
HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD;
Hosanna in the highest!" When He had entered Jerusalem,
all the city was stirred, saying, "Who is this?" And the crowds
were saying, "This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee."
Matthew 21:9-11 NASB

This song was born during a time of personal worship in my
studio. The things I minister publicly are first born privately.
They are real and deeply life altering in my own experience
before I ever share them with others. Because of the deep
redeeming work Christ has done in my life through the years,
I have come to see my life as a child of the King. I call
myself what He calls me. I sit at the table with Him
rather than underneath waiting for the crumbs to fall
to me. My desire is to see my life from His perspective
and to live my life accordingly.

As believers, we desire to make Christ known in all
our ways. We desire to see the world around us come
to know Him as we do. But in order for that to happen,
we must prepare the way in our own hearts. I could
never share publicly my own deliverance from same
sex attraction did I not believe the King was in control.
The vitriol I receive is sometimes overwhelming until I
step back and see it from the King's perspective. Rather
than seeing those who are violently opposed to the truth
I represent, I now see hurting people who simply need
someone to hear them. Rather than fearing for my own
life, I see the many who desire freedom themselves
coming to know the King simply because I dared to
share my story of faith in Christ. Seeing life from the
King's point of view makes for a very abundant life
as we have been promised.

The word 'hosanna' literally means 'save us now'.
In Jesus' day, people were looking for a physical king
to deliver them. Jesus is so much more! In Him we
find redemption from our past. In Him we have a
Defender. In Him we find absolute perfect love and
acceptance. In Him we find grace and healing for
our wounds. In Him we have the ultimate victory over
sin and death! When I say 'hosanna' I am saying 'I
agree with Who God is and declare that I am victorious
because of Who He is and who I am in Him!'

Use this song. Sing it long and sing it loud. Use the bridge
for releasing the body to make melody in their hearts to
the Lord. Use Hosanna! as a song of worship and as a
song of victory. Use it as a song of identity and
abandonment to Jesus. Use it as a cleansing prayer.
I humbly ask that you consider using it to minister
life and encouragement to the body of Christ.
In His Love and Grace,
Dennis Jernigan
