I serve on the Board of Directors for Exodus International, the
world’s largest ministry to those who struggle with unwanted same sex
attraction. In any given year Exodus receives requests for help from
upwards of 350,000 people – from strugglers, parents, family, and
friends of those who struggle! This year I was given the privilege of
ministering at the Exodus International Freedom Conference at Wheaton
University in Wheaton, IL. As I prepared for that night I asked the
Lord to let me hear a song that would truly touch the heart of those
who would be attending. My desire was to express in words back to the
Father what was the true heart cry of each individual at the
conference. This song came quickly…as I was allowed to remember the
despair I used to feel when I was in the midst of my own struggles in
this area. The loneliness. The rejection. The depression. The fear.
The hurt and pain. The sorrow. The deep, gut-wrenching need to be
acknowledged as worthy of existence. The night I shared it, hundreds
wept openly as the Lord used the song to help these men and women cry
out to God from the depths of their own hearts.
