Be My Child -- Song History

Due to the nature of my own story and subsequent victory, I receive
many requests for help from those who struggle with unwanted same sex
attraction. Almost just as many requests for help come from parents of
young men and women who struggle. After one recent time of ministry
with a mom and dad of a young struggler, I cam e away from that
meeting feeling very encouraged...yet I knew that the Lord may have a
song of deliverance for this precious family. As I sought the Lord
asking Him to allow me to hear what He was singing over them, this
song was born. As soon as I could, I made a recording and sent it to
this mom and dad. I received this response:
"Thank you for your encouragement. Thank you for being so open with
God that you can hear Him when He is talking to you. I think I have
the song "Be My Child" memorized, I have listened to it so many times
since last night. It is beautiful and it reminds me where my place is
as a parent and that God will never leave me or my child.
Thank you for giving me hope."
The reason I share this response is because of the phrase 'it reminds
me where my place is as a parent and that God will never leave me or
my son.' To be the best parents we can be we must take the time to be
sons and daughters to our heavenly Father and allow our Father to
nurture us along the way. May you find hope and grace for your
particular parental journey as you allow Father to sing these words
over you through me.
Blessings,
Dennis Jernigan
Verse
I have been where you are
Several billion times before
A Father's heart so burdened for His child
I have been where you are
Between the desert and the storm
So lay your burden down
And rest with Me awhile
Chorus
Be My child
I'll slay the dragons
Be My child
I'll calm the sea
Be My child awhile
And Trust your child to Me
Be My child
And let the tears flow
Be My child
I'll bind your wounds
Be My child awhile
I'll be right here with you
Verse
You don't know just how to help them
Your wayward, wounded child
All you know is all you'd give to see them free
I know exactly how to help them
When the storms are raging wild
Trust Me to hold them
While you find your rest in Me
Chorus
Be My child
I'll slay the dragons
Be My child
I'll calm the sea
Be My child awhile
And Trust your child to Me
Be My child
And let the tears flow
Be My child
I'll bind your wounds
Be My child awhile
I'll be right here with you
