The Very First Christmas Tree

Verse
The very first Christmas tree was not very festive
Simple and roughhewn, not much to see
The very first Christmas tree, lonely, scorned, rejected
Its only decoration was a King!
Chorus
And this King shed precious blood!
Laid His life down in pure love!
Sacrifice, more than enough to save, redeem!
And this King Who suffered loss
Paid sin's debt! Paid mankind's cost!
Willingly went to the cross to wash us clean!
This was the very first Christmas tree!
Verse
The very first Christmas tree held no gold or tinsel
Crimson stained the branches of this tree
The very first Christmas tree, splintered, rough, and simple
A tree born on the shoulders of a King!
Verse
The very first Christmas tree, born of pain and sorrow
Born on shoulders scarred for you and me
The very first Christmas tree held Who holds tomorrow
Lord Jesus, risen, ever reigning King!
This was the very first Christmas tree!
The Very First Christmas Tree - Song History

As I was preparing for the day,
I began to think about Christmas
and the true meaning...the coming of
Christ to save mankind from sin and
set mankind free to be who God calls
them to be. This song came as
I thought about my children and
grandchildren for generations to
come. I do not want them to forget
the reason for the season...and
remember Whose we are, who we
are called to be, and why we are
here... When I think of Christmas,
I think of THE tree - the cross
of Christ...the place of my atonement,
the place of deepest sorrow yet
the place of deepest joy.
Dennis Jernigan
But may it never be that I would boast,
except in the cross of our Lord Jesus
Christ, through which the world has
been crucified to me, and I to the world.
Galatians 6:14 NASB
