If I Could Just Sit With You Awhile

This was written for Bob and Joy Burgess. Bob has been like a father to many of us for many, many years.  He has walked through the fire and desert and hard times with us. He has fought many battles with us when others had given up. During the past year, Bob has been battling cancer. This song was born one night as we prayed over him.  Bob was charged to rest in God, to simply sit with the Father and let the Father hold him.

On Sunday morning, February 16, 1992, Bob burgess met Jesus face to face. The words I wrote before Bob’s death still hold true, we need to stand firm in our faith and fight the good fight. We ask that you continue to pray. Only now we ask that you pray that the death of this seed would bring forth much life and salvation, a mighty harvest of grain. And remember where Bob is, his Daddy came and said, “Come here, son.  I want to hold you, moment by moment ‘til forever passes by.”

But being full of the Holy Spirit, he gazed intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God; and he said, "Behold, I see the heavens opened up and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God." But they cried out with a loud voice, and covered their ears and rushed at him with one impulse. When they had driven him out of the city, they began stoning him; and the witnesses laid aside their robes at the feet of a young man named Saul. They went on stoning Stephen as he called on the Lord and said, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!" Then falling on his knees, he cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them!" Having said this, he fell asleep.
Acts 7:55-60 NASB

When I cannot feel,
When my wounds won’t heal,
Lord, I humbly kneel
Hidden in You!
Lord, You are my life
So I don’t mind to die
Just as long as I’m
Hidden in You!

When I know I’ve Sinned
When I should have been
Crying out “My God”
And hidden in You
Lord, I need You now
More than I know how!
So I humbly bow
Hidden in You!

If I could just sit with You awhile
If You could just hold me
Nothing could touch me though I’m wounded,
Though I die!
If I could just sit with You awhile
I need You to hold me
Moment by moment ‘til forever passes by!
