But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ…
Philippians 3:7-8 NASB
This song was born the day before my first ever Next Generation Creative Institue. As I prepared to lead 17 men and women in a mentoring setting in my home, the Holy Spirit led me to lay aside all I had prepared. He led me to simply ‘go with the flow’ of where He would direct us as a group. As I made the decision to follow His leading a deep peace came over my soul and this song began to be born. Each one of us desires true intimacy – to know and to be known. If we look at the Kingdom point of view – the big picture – we come to see that God wastes nothing in our lives if we give them to Him! He will use our sorrow…our failures…our fears…our disappointments…and turn them into joy…and victory…and courage…and hope! This song became our theme for the weekend…and a joy to sing to my God!

Verse
That I might know You
Then I must die
It is in dying
I find my life
That I might know You
I suffer death
And I want nothing less
That I might know You
I lay aside
My need for glory
My foolish pride
That I might know You
Who went through Hell
That I might know You well
Chorus
That I might know You
I lay down my life!
Worldly possessions
And my willful human pride
That I might know You
I count everything as lost
That I might know You
Who endured for me the cross
That I might know You!
That I might know You!
That I might know You!
Verse
That I might know You
I’d suffer scorn
Though I be beaten
My body torn
That I might know You
Who filled my void
Knowing You is my joy!
Chorus
That I might know You
I lay down my life!
Worldly possessions
And my willful human pride
That I might know You
I count everything as lost
That I might know You
Who endured for me the cross
That I might know You!
That I might know You!
That I might know You!
Chorus
That I might know You
I lay down my life!
Worldly possessions
And my willful human pride
That I might know You
I count everything as lost
That I might know You
Who endured for me the cross
That I might know You!
That I might know You!
That I might know You!
Verse
That I might know You
Then I must die
It is in dying
I find my life
That I might know You
I suffer death
And I want nothing less
