We Need Jesus Song History WORDS & MUSIC Dennis Jernigan January 24, 2020
This song, as most songs I write, is born directly out of my own struggles as well as the struggles of those I cross paths with in this life. Being diagnosed with Parkinson’s was devastating on so many levels. With the diagnosis came mental battles, emotional battles, physical battles, and spiritual battles. In other words, I was overwhelmed. What I have learned to do in life when I am literally overwhelmed is give up - surrender to - Jesus. Jesus is the Answer to all my needs. He just is. One of the things that helps me overcome feelings of being overwhelmed is to focus my attention on the needs of others. The moment I chose to refocus myself, I was immediately swamped with prayer requests. One friend - my age - had a stroke and was hospitalized. Another friend lost his job and was feeling defeated and down. I received messages from parents heartbroken over the choices their children were making in life concerning their identities. I received messages from those feeling trapped in the lies of the enemy concerning their identities. In each instance, I found the need and the Answer to be the same. We all need Jesus. Jesus is the Answer. Thus, this song was born.
Please pardon the less-than-stellar vocals on the demo. The deterioration of my voice is yet another symptom of Parkinson’s…but I plan to keep exalting Jesus with my voice until I can no longer do so. I hope this song brings encouragement to your mind and grace to your soul to keep on keeping on! Dennis Jernigan
When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all. 1 Corinthians 15:28 NASB
