Sing Hallelujah! - Song History WORDS & MUSIC Dennis Jernigan July 6, 2020
This song came in the midst of dealing with the symptoms of Parkinson’s I was experiencing at the time. Sleeplessness. Fogginess of thought. Discouragement. Lack of stamina. You get the idea. In spite of these very real symptoms, my reality is though these things affect me but they do not define me. What I needed was a great big dose of Truth and some joy added to the mix! My thoughts immediately ran back to some of the most joyful moments of my life and the music that brought me to the release of that joy. As you know, I was set free - born again - at a 2nd Chapter of Acts concert in 1981 and I take their song Easter Song as a personal anthem of my faith. That song just brings me to the moves common denominator of faith: Jesus is risen in me! Add to that the music of Keith Green along with his version of Easter Song and I am instantly flooded with memories of joy and recall the literal hours upon hours I would listen to both of these amazing artist’s music. I decided I would simply sing my heart to the place of joy by imitating the styles of those songs that brought me so much joy and led me to so much freedom…and this song was born. Does it sound like Easter Song stylistically? Do you hear tinges of Keith Green’s joy? That was very intentional. May this song bring you many moments of joy in the presence of the Lord.
You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.
