Sing Over Me - Song History

This song came on a day I honestly felt like giving up. The week leading up to the day I received this song had been a good week in terms of the symptoms of Parkinson’s I have to deal with. Expecting the weekend to be just as positive, I was hit with a very emotionally exhausted, foggy brain the morning of August 1. I felt overwhelmed with every conversation. I felt confused by the slightest question. We had a family gathering that day and I barely made it through. I finally had to excuse myself and go sit in my room in my recliner and be still while my body took me close to the edge of giving up. Somehow, I grew even more miserable just sitting there in my foggy thoughts and decided if I was going to be miserable, I might as well be miserable and worship God! I went to my studio and began to beseech the Lord to surround me with songs of deliverance…and this song was born. Since that day, I cannot get the chorus out of my head. It is like it has become a solid rock where I can stand when the foggy days come. Parkinson’s does not define me and will never keep me from seeking intimacy with God. This song is a reminder that if I am going to fall apart, I have a safe place to do so…in the arms of my Father Who is able to get me through the foggy times and to the safety of His presence. May it encourage you as well…

You are my hiding place;
You preserve me from trouble;
You surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.
Psalm 32:7 NASB
Verse
Sometimes life just seems much too hard
Sometimes the distance much too far
But through every fiery trial of life I've ever seen
You have always been there singing over me
Sometimes the flame's unbearable
Sometimes the pain so terrible
But through every fiery trial of life I've ever seen
You have always been there singing over me
Chorus
Sing over me, "I love you!"
Sing over me the joy of being Yours and Yours alone!
Sing over me, "I love you!"
"Child, you will never be alone!"
"My joy is knowing you and being known!”
Verse
Sometimes night seems to never end
Sometimes I feel like giving in
But through every fiery trial of life I've ever seen
You have always been there singing over me
Here now I lay my broken heart
Your arms, safe place to fall apart
But through every fiery trial of life I've ever seen
You have always been there singing over me
Chorus
Bridge
When the storms surround me
Blinded by the rain
You are Solid Rock singing comfort to my pain!
Arms of love around me
Sheltering me while You sing over me!
When the dark of night comes
Blinding me with fear
You will be my Light while You hold me very near!
Arms of love around me
Sheltering me while You sing over me!
Chorus
