During the summer of 2002, the youth group from DJ’s church met each week at his home to learn about worship. As the summer began, DJ quickly realized the Lord would give him a song for each week of those meetings. The youth group would learn about worshipping God and DJ would have a song to illustrate a certain aspect of worship/ That song would then serve as a tangible reminder to the young people of the truths they were learning. During the course of those weekly sessions, Dennis began to refer to the group as the Giant Killers because of their growth in understanding their true identity in Christ. As usual, these songs are also autobiographical. Dennis has long identified with the first giant killer, the shepherd boy David. Jernigan also had his story, Giant Killers, published by WaterBrook Press.
Standout songs include the joyful call to worship Ev’rybody Get Up, the militant Say It Loud, the worshipful All Over Me, and the triumphant We Win.
Hidden Gems: the boastful You Are, the incredibly honest I Can’t Live Without You, and the song from the Father’s heart, Mighty Man of Valor.
