MP3: Redeemed

 Received June 26, 2009

For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 1:13-14 NASB

Because of my testimony – how God took me from one identity to a new one – I meet many, many people who want to know what that means…because they want to experience it in their own lives. Explaining how Jesus exchanged His life for mine is not always easy, especially since most people want an instant healing from whatever their old identity is. Redemption came through faith in Jesus…that He paid the debt I owed because of my sin. He redeemed me from the curse of the law and from paying the ultimate penalty – death. While I know I will one day die a physical death I will live on in eternal life because Jesus took my place on the cross. My sin separated me from God but Jesus bridged that gap by laying down His life. He invited me to die to my old life by faith…so I did. He then gave me His own life as a new creation. Something I was not before I now became by a simple act of faith. He did all the work. I just received the gift He offered freely. My redemption was instantaneous when I placed my faith in Jesus…but it has also been a journey on which I have learned to put off the old thoughts concerning my identity and have put on the mind of Christ concerning who I am.
